The Jockey Club is predicting a steady North American Thoroughbred foal crop in 2019.
The breed organization is projecting a registered foal crop of 21,500, the same as the 2018 foal-crop projection, which was announced at this time last year. The foal-crop projection is computed by using Reports of Mares Bred received to date for the 2018 breeding season, which were to be filed by Aug. 1.
“We estimate that approximately 85 percent of Reports of Mares Bred, which the foal crop estimate is based on, have been received,” Matt Iuliano, The Jockey Club’s executive vice president and executive director, said in a release.
Additional foal-crop information is available in The Jockey Club’s online fact book at jockeyclub.com/factbook.asp and in the online state fact books.
