When a 2018 U.S. Supreme Court ruling made it legal for any state to offer sports betting, Indiana already had legislation in place to be among the first to market. And ever since Indiana accepted its first wagers in the fall of 2019, the Hoosier State has been a national pacesetter, even as neighboring states have entered the fray.

2024 saw annual Indiana sports betting handle eclipse $5 billion for the first time, with November -- nestled in the heart of football season and at the beginning of basketball season -- attracting an all-time monthly high of $614 million in wagers.

Sports betting has been legal in Indiana since Governor Eric Holcomb signed House Bill 105 into law on May 8, 2019.
Anyone who is at least 21 years of age and physically located within the boundaries of Indiana can wager on sports in the state.

It is legal to bet on horse racing in Indiana, which is home to two racetracks: Horseshoe Indianapolis and Harrah's Hoosier Park. Both of these tracks are owned by Caesars, which operates several sportsbooks and OTBs in the state. People may also bet on simulcast races online through advance-deposit wagering platforms like TwinSpires, TVG/FanDuel Racing, Xpressbet, and NYRA Bets.
