Mississippi's Gulf Coast is the third-largest casino gambling region in the United States, behind only Las Vegas and Atlantic City, a ranking made all the more impressive by the fact that this infrastructure basically had to be rebuilt after the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
With this concentration of casinos, retail sports betting opportunities abound, as there are more than a dozen brick-and-mortar sportsbooks lining the Mississippi coast. But while "onsite mobile" – where bettors can access sports wagering apps on a casino's property but not a centimeter outside of it – is a minor thing in Mississippi, it has yet to legalize statewide mobile wagering, a significant speed bump that the state legislature has failed to clear in recent years.
