After years of watching tax dollars flow to neighboring states that had legalized sports betting, Missouri voters took matters into their own hands to overcome legislative gridlock, narrowly passing sports wagering into law in 2024.
Mobile sports betting will debut in Missouri in the second half of 2025. When that day comes to pass, Chiefs fans will no longer have to drive into Kansas to bet on their favorite football team, just as Cardinals fans will no longer have to cross the Mississippi into southern Illinois to back the storied National League club.
With its existing casino infrastructure, low initial tax rate, and the involvement of the state's major professional sports franchises, Missouri presents an attractive opportunity for major sports betting platforms. Among the operators that can be expected to vie for participation in the Missouri market are Bally Bet, bet365, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, ESPN BET, Fanatics, FanDuel, and Hard Rock Bet.

Sports betting in Missouri has been legalized but has yet to launch. Voters in the state narrowly approved this form of gambling in November of 2024, and it is expected to launch sometime between June and December of 2025.
Anyone who's physically located in the state of Missouri and at least 21 years of age will be able to legally place a wager once sports betting launches.

As with so many details surrounding sports betting in Missouri, this remains to be seen. Some states have outlawed betting on in-state colleges or college player props, but it's unclear at this point if Missouri will follow suit.

While it's technically legal to bet on horse racing in Missouri, doing so is impossible at the present time. There are no commercial racetracks or advance deposit-wagering platforms currently operating in Missouri, and off-track wagering is prohibited. However, those living in the St. Louis area can cross the river into nearby Collinsville, Illinois, to wager on live or simulcast racing at FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing (formerly Fairmount Park).
