Louisiana Downs super pick five jackpot hit for $889K

The super pick five jackpot at Louisiana Downs was hit on Friday, paying $889,726. The jackpot only pays out if there is a single ticket with five winners.

The wager, which runs on the final five races on the program, had last been solved on June 27.

There was an $810,339 carryover into the card, and another $105,848 was bet into the pool Friday, said Trent McIntosh, director of racing operations for Louisiana Downs.

“It was great to have a pool that size for the time that it lasted, and some lucky guy just made a life-changing bet,” said McIntosh.

Beulah Park: Ohio-breds in spotlight with two Sunday stakes

Ohio-bred horses will take center stage at the River Downs at Beulah Park meet with a pair of $50,000 stakes Sunday. Both the fifth race, the Horizon Stakes for 3-year-olds, and the seventh race, the Vivacious Handicap for older fillies and mares, are restricted to statebreds.

Uptown Gal comes into the Vivacious off a 5 1/4-length win in the $75,000 Queen City Oaks on July 28 at Beulah Park. Trained by Jim Rankin, Uptown Gal will be turning back in distance − the Oaks covered 1 1/8 miles, and the Vivacious covers 1 1/16 miles.

Presque Isle Downs: Cat’s Holiday to stalk pace in Malvern Rose Stakes

Cat’s Holiday will face statebred company for only the second time in her short career when heading a field of six 3-year-old Pennsylvania-bred fillies in the $75,000 Malvern Rose Stakes at Presque Isle Downs on Sunday.

Unraced at 2, Cat’s Holiday won at first asking for trainer Graham Motion on Jan. 12 at Tampa Bay Downs. Her second win came locally against statebred company May 20 in an allowance race going a mile.

Arapahoe Park: Wally Van may get favorable pace scenario in Classic

Wally Van could get the right kind of pace setup Sunday in the $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic, with five of the 12 older horses in the 1 1/8-mile race stretching out from sprints.

Those making the distance move include Hezamazing, a two-time winner of the Classic, and Behold de Buy, the runner-up in last year’s edition. For this season’s Classic, the purse was doubled in value last month because of an 11 percent increase in handle at Arapahoe.

It’s not all about the brothers Dan for trainer Charlie LoPresti.

On Thursday, LoPresti sent out Windswept to a 9 1/2-length, second-level allowance win here. Granted, it was only a four-horse field, but Windswept ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.14 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 103.

Despite some rain and a muddy racetrack, trainer Bret Calhoun sent his graded stakes winner Bahnah out to work an easy half-mile in 51.60 over the Oklahoma training track Friday. The undefeated Bahnah finished in a dead heat for first with Brazen Persuasion on opening day in the Grade 3 Schuylerville.

Emerald Downs: Mr. Bowling set to run in Longacres Mile

AUBURN, Wash. − The field for the Grade 3, $200,000 Longacres Mile on Aug. 18 began to firm up late last week with some defections from the original list of 28 nominees and news that Mr. Bowling, a graded stakes winner in Louisiana, had settled into trainer Mike Puhich’s barn at Emerald Downs to begin final preparations for the Northwest’s richest race.
