Emerald Downs: Del Rio Harbor scores in Emerald Express

Del Rio Harbor, under jockey Rocco Bowen, wins Sunday's Emerald Express by three-quarters of a length.

AUBURN, Wash. – Del Rio Harbor, a 15-1 outsider, raced to a narrow victory Sunday in the $50,000 Emerald Express at Emerald Downs. In winning the meeting’s first stakes race for 2-year-olds, Del Rio Harbor ran six furlongs in 1:10.75 and paid $32.80.

By leading Northwest stallion Harbor the Gold, from the Horse Chestnut mare Bahati, Del Rio Harbor is a full brother to Couldabenthewhisky, a multiple stakes winner at Emerald Downs. And like his big brother, Del Rio Harbor demonstrated lots of speed and determination in his first start against winners.

Del Mar: Points Offthebench wins Bing Crosby to give Yakteen first Grade 1 score

DEL MAR, Calif. – A day after winning the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga, Mike Smith completed a coast-to-coast, Grade 1 double by guiding Points Offthebench to a mild upset victory in the $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes on Sunday at Del Mar, giving trainer Tim Yakteen his first Grade 1 victory.

Points Offthebench ($8.80) was the fourth choice among six runners in his stakes debut. Smith settled him into fourth place early in the six-furlong race, they hit the front a furlong out, and they were fully extended to stave off Goldencents and win by a head in 1:09.04 on Polytrack.

Del Mar notes: Lady of Shamrock eyes John Mabee Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Lady of Shamrock, a two-time Grade 1 winner who was second in the Grade 2 New York Handicap at Belmont Park on June 29, is being pointed for the $250,000 John Mabee Stakes on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 11.

Lady of Shamrock was a candidate for the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on Aug. 17 but will remain in California.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Kettle Corn and Paynter, the first two finishers of Saturday’s Grade 2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar, might have a rematch in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 25.

Trainer John Sadler said the Pacific Classic is the primary goal for Kettle Corn. Trainer Bob Baffert said Paynter also will be considered for the $750,000 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 31.

Arapahoe Park: Dance to the Star wins Mount Elbert Stakes for third time

Dance to the Star won the $44,015 Mount Elbert Stakes for the third time Sunday at Arapahoe Park, where he led throughout for a 5 3/4-length victory over Magical Twist. It was another half-length back to Wally Van in third.

Dance to the Star’s other wins in the Mount Elbert, a 1 1/16-mile race for Colorado-breds, came in 2010 and 2012. He was a slight favorite Sunday over Wally Van, who won the race in 2011.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Garrett Gomez, who has not ridden since July 14 after saying he underwent treatment for alcoholism earlier this month, is scheduled to meet with Del Mar stewards on Friday for the second time in a week before he will be permitted to resume riding, steward Tom Ward said.

Monmouth Park: Silver Max takes Oceanport Stakes on front end

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Silver Max was the dominant, front-running winner of the Grade 3, $170,000 Oceanport Stakes on turf at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Breaking from the rail, Silver Max and jockey Robby Albarado jumped out to an early lead and dictated fractions of 23.84 seconds, 47.08, and 1:09.81, with Tune Me In prompting the honest pace.

Turning for home, Silver Max shook loose for a solo waltz to the wire. Howe Great, the winner of Monmouth’s 2012 Jersey Derby, came on to get second, 5 3/4 lengths behind the winner.

Monmouth Park: Geeky Gorgeous wins Regret Stakes at 14-1

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Bettors who gave up on Geeky Gorgeous certainly regretted it Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Geeky Gorgeous, who hadn’t been higher than 8-1 in her last 11 starts, rallied from off the pace at 14-1 under Joe Bravo to win the $127,000 Regret Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths. She returned $30 to win.

She’s Ordained finished second by three-quarters of a length over Same Cross.

The Regret, originally scheduled for Saturday with a purse of $75,000, was moved to Sunday and had its purse bumped up because it drew a quality field.
