Pleasanton: Skydreamin delivers as favorite in Everett Nevin Stakes

PLEASANTON, Calif. – The favored Skydreamin ($4.80) avoided the early problems he had in winning the Lost in the Fog Stakes in his debut as he scored his second straight victory Sunday, winning the $59,000 Everett Nevin Stakes on closing day at the Alameda County Fair.

Hollywood Park: Byrama to face strong field in A Gleam Handicap

Byrama and jockey Gary Stevens won the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap by 3 1/2 lengths Saturday.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Byrama, the winner of the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap at 1 1/8 miles June 15, will revert to racing around one turn in Saturday’s $200,000 A Gleam Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park, trainer Simon Callaghan said Sunday.

Callaghan solidified plans for Byrama after she worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday, the fastest of 48 recorded works at the distance.

“She worked fantastically well,” Callaghan said. “It was a carbon copy of her work before her last out.”

Hollywood Park: Jockey Tyler Baze suspended for failed alcohol test

Tyler Baze missed more than a year of riding, from August 2011 to October 2012, because of problems with alcoholism.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Jockey Tyler Baze has been suspended 120 days for failing an alcohol test last month, according to a ruling issued Sunday by track stewards at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The suspension is retroactive to June 13 and continues through Oct. 10. To resume riding, Baze, 30, must attend an in-house rehabilitation facility for a minimum of 60 days and attend a fitness hearing before stewards Scott Chaney, Kim Sawyer, and Tom Ward. The rehabilitation facility must be approved by the Winners’ Foundation, which assists people in horse racing with substance-abuse issues.

Monmouth Park: Micromanage overcomes wide trip to win Long Branch

Micromanage, with Joe Bravo aboard, won the Long Branch Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths Sunday for his first stakes victory.

Micromanage had to run farther than all eight of his rivals in Sunday’s $102,500 Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park but still managed to win with ease, surging clear down the stretch for a 4 1/2-length victory. The Medaglia d’Oro colt got his first stakes win and stamped himself as a contender for Monmouth’s biggest race, the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational on July 28.

Arapahoe Park: Oneotwo gets second straight stakes win in Wafer Memorial

Oneotwo, under jockey Kelsi Purcell, won the George Wafer Memorial by 1 1/4 lengths Sunday.

One start after upending male rivals in an Arapahoe Park stakes, Oneotwo defeated her own kind Sunday in the track’s $40,000 George Wafer Memorial for 3-year-old fillies.

Oneotwo was always prominent for a 1 1/4-length win, her second straight stakes victory. She had won the $40,000 Inaugural at 20-1 in May.

Monmouth Park: Immortal Eyes wires Mr. Prospector Stakes

Immortal Eyes, under Paco Lopez, won the Mr. Prospector Stakes by 7 1/4 lengths Sunday for his 10th stakes victory.

Immortal Eyes led every step of the way in the $76,500 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday, drawing off down the stretch for a 7 1/4-length victory under jockey Paco Lopez.

Immortal Eyes, trained by Damon Dilodovico, had made his Monmouth Park debut June 22, wiring a $50,000 optional claimer by 2 3/4 lengths. He proved impossible to catch again Sunday, leading the field of six through a quarter-mile in 21.98 seconds and a half-mile in 44.89 while building a one-length advantage.

Thistledown: Silver Tongued wins Cleveland Gold Cup

Silver Tongued made it a perfect 2 for 2 at Thistledown by winning the $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup on Sunday.

Jockey Lori Wydick kept Silver Tongued at the back of the field of nine 3-year-old, Ohio-bred colts and geldings until upper stretch.

Trained by Jeff Greenhill, Silver Tongued hooked the leader, Pyrite Green, and the two dueled to the wire, with Silver Tongued winning by a half-length.

Pyrite Green was 16 1/2 lengths in front of post-time favorite Plain Ol' Willard, who finished third.

Hollywood Park: Need You Now prevails in Le Cle Stakes

Need You Now, ridden by Julien Leparoux, won the Le Cle Stakes by 2 3/4 lengths Sunday.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – No blinkers were no problem for Need You Now in Sunday’s $73,850 Le Cle Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Racing without the headgear for the first time since last autumn, Need You Now won her first stakes in the United States in the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies.

Ridden by Julien Leparoux for his father-in-law, Mike Mitchell, Need You Now ($4.80) stalked pacesetter Wednesday to early stretch and pulled clear in the final furlong to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Sent off as the favorite in a field of six, Need You Now was timed in 1:34.76.

Woodbine: Midnight Aria wins Queen's Plate at 16-1

Midnight Aria (No. 1), with Jesse Campbell aboard, won the Queen's Plate by a half-length Sunday for his first stakes victory.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Midnight Aria led all the way at 16-1 in Sunday’s $1 million Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, holding off a charging Up With the Birds in the 154th running of the Canadian classic.

On paper, Midnight Aria was the lone speed in the 1 1/4-mile route. Under Jesse Campbell, he was allowed to set uncontested fractions of 24.63 seconds, 48.58, and 1:13.65 over a speed-favoring Polytrack surface that had taken heavy rainfall. He opened up a three-length cushion on the far turn before holding on for a half-length tally in 2:04.72.
