The vintage 8-year-old turf sprinter won his fourth straight start Saturday at Arlington when he captured the $100,000 Arlington Sprint for the second year in a row, gamely holding off Hogy to win by a head.

Belmont: Much-improved Moreno romps in Dwyer

ELMONT, N.Y. - Moreno shipped from California to New York primarily to be a workmate of another horse in the barn with stakes aspirations. As the Belmont Park meet nears its end, it is Moreno who turns out to be the star of trainer Eric Guillot’s stable.

Validating the front-running maiden victory he recorded here on Belmont Stakes Day, Moreno once gain used his speed to record a seven-length, front-running victory in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont.

Calder: Bahamian Squall gives Fawkes his third Smile victory

Bahamian Squall earned a guaranteed berth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint by winning the Smile under Luis Saez.

MIAMI - David Fawkes, who won the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Big Drama, is well on his way to going back again after his Bahamian Squall rallied to a 1 3/4-length victory over reigning Sprint champion Trinniberg in the $350,000 Smile Handicap, the co-feature on Saturday’s rich Summit of Speed program at Calder.  

The Grade 2 Smile is a Win and You’re In event for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Bahamian Squall’s victory was Fawkes’s third in the Smile, following  Big Drama during the summer of his championship season and Forty One Carats 10 years earlier.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Even though his horse was the 7-5 second choice in the race, trainer Chad Brown knew the only real chance his Last Gunfighter had to win Saturday’s Grade 2 Suburban was if the multiple Grade 1 winner Flat Out was off his game.Looking at Flat Out in the Belmont Park paddock before the race, Brown didn’t see anything amiss with the favorite.

Ellis Park: My Perfect Ten rolls to victory in Ellis Park Turf Stakes

My Perfect Ten made her first start for trainer Steve Lyster a memorable one Saturday, rolling to an easy triumph at 8-1 in the $50,000 Ellis Park Turf Stakes in Henderson, Ky.

With Roberto Morales aboard, My Perfect Ten quickly drew off in the final furlong of the 1 1/16-mile race to finish 3 1/4 lengths ahead of another 8-1 shot, Run a Risk. Soft Whisper was just a head back in third as the 8-5 favorite.

MIAMI - Wildcat Lily proved her easy victory in the Leave Me Alone Stakes four weeks earlier was no fluke, while at the same time avenging a tough defeat she sustained earlier in the meet, when outgaming Dreaming of Susie to register a well-deserved neck triumph in the $150,000 Azalea Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

Asmussen’s bid to sweep the two graded stakes for 3-year-olds on Saturday’s Summit of Speed card ended when his 8-5 favorite Speedinthruthecity finished third.

Woodbine: Sky Commander gets Charlie Barley victory on DQ

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Sky Commander, a 24-1 outsider trained by Mark Casse, won Saturday’s $129,800 Charlie Barley Stakes at Woodbine after the disqualification of Golden Sabre.
 
Golden Sabre rallied outside from sixth to get home on top by a half-length in the one-mile turf event, but he drifted in late and interfered with Kid Dreams. Following an inquiry and a jockey’s objection, he was placed behind that rival in fourth. Favored Clearly Now inherited second, and Kid Dreams got third in the 10-horse field of 3-year-olds.
