Hollywood Park: She’s a Tiger heads Landaluce Stakes

Shigeki Kikkawa
On the Backstreets ran second as the even-money favorite in the Cinderella Stakes.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – She’s a Tiger won her debut by nine lengths at the Alameda County Fair at Pleasanton on June 22. It was not a surprise. She’s a Tiger overwhelmed three rivals at odds of 1-5.

“You don’t get too many like her,” trainer Jeff Bonde said.

A half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Smiling Tiger, She’s a Tiger makes her stakes debut in the $100,000 Landaluce Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Betfair Hollywood Park on Saturday. She may not be 1-5 in the Landaluce, but she will be favored to win the six-furlong race.

Bill Denver/Equi-Photo
Laughing won the Grade 3 Eatontown at Monmouth in her only start this year. She will represent trainer Alan Goldberg in the Robert G. Dick Memorial if the turf is firm.

The weather forecast will guide trainer Alan Goldberg’s strategy for the Grade 3, $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial on Saturday at Delaware Park.

The Dick, the supporting event on a card topped by the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks, attracted 10 fillies and mares for the three-turn contest at 1 3/8 miles on the turf.

Goldberg has two standout Irish-bred entrants in Laughing and Tannery. Only one will run, depending on course conditions.

Colonial Downs: Rydilluc tries to stay perfect on grass in Virginia Derby

Barbara D. Livingston
Rydilluc won the inaugural Penn Mile in his most recent start to improve to 4 for 4 on turf.

On June 1 at Penn National, the unofficial title of the country’s top 3-year-old turf miler was decided when Rydilluc defeated Charming Kitten and Jack Milton in the $500,000 Penn Mile, the richest race for sophomore turf horses run to that point in 2013.

A month and a half later, Saturday’s Grade 2, $500,000 Virginia Derby is set to determine the 3-year-old pecking order going the longer turf distance of 1 1/4 miles.

Bill Denver/Equi-Photo
Boisterous, winning the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes, owns a 3-for-4 record at the 1 3/8-mile distance of the Man o' War.

Coming off a win in the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes on June 9, Boisterous could be poised to win his most prestigious race to date in the $600,000 Man o’ War, a 1 3/8-mile race scheduled for the inner turf course with a field of eight.

Hollywood Park: Sarach sitting on ready for American Oaks

Shigeki Kikkawa
Sarach finished fifth in the China Doll and Providencia, then upset the Grade 2 Honeymoon (above).

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Sarach has fooled Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella at times this year.

A 3-year-old filly, Sarach won a maiden race on turf at Santa Anita on Jan. 5, leaving Mandella optimistic about her chances through the rest of that meeting.

“We’d been hoping she’d be good enough, and she did show something when she broke her maiden,” Mandella said. “I tried her in a few stakes, and she wasn’t as good.”

Delaware Park: Tell a Great Story a filly on the rise in Delaware Oaks

[bc_video_id:297849:]Upon her birth at Sagamore Farm in Maryland, Tell a Great Story was referred to as a “dummy foal” because she didn’t know how to suckle her mother and lacked normal reflexes. She has been anything but a slow learner on the racetrack, however.

After surviving a potentially life-threatening situation, in which she also had trouble breathing, Tell a Great Story won her career debut, just missed in her first try going two turns, and scored by the slimmest of margins in her stakes debut.

Hastings: Touching Promise steps up after victory

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Touching Promise might be good enough to stand the considerable jump in class when she runs in an allowance race restricted to 3-year-old fillies who have not won $27,500 in 2013 or $12,000 twice this year. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint drew seven horses and will serve as Saturday’s feature at Hastings.
