OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The two months he missed last spring due to a broken clavicle may have reinvigorated jockey Dylan Davis.

“I was out for two months and I was watching all my horses win and it made me mad,” Davis said Sunday at Aqueduct. “When I came back, I wanted to come back stronger and do better than what I was doing before. Sometimes you get in a little rut and you’re content with where you are, and it kind of reset me.”

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Emmanuel figured as a short-priced favorite in a mile and 40-yard allowance Friday at Tampa Bay Downs, but instead was kept home at Palm Beach Downs by trainer Todd Pletcher after spiking a temperature.

“He’s fine,” said Pletcher. “It was kind of frustrating because we were hoping to get him some two-turn experience. We’ll regroup and figure out where we go from this.”

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Jack Christopher is back with trainer Chad Brown in Florida after getting about 60 days off to recover from a minor shin ailment that forced the unbeaten colt to miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Brown said Sunday after Jack Christopher was bedded down at Payson Park that he has no set agenda for a return to racing, although obviously it is hoped the colt will be able to make the May 7 Kentucky Derby if he returns to peak condition.

“No update until I start training on him,” said Brown.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The two-time graded stakes winner Harvest Moon has been retired after a series of disappointing performances, trainer Simon Callaghan said on Sunday.

Harvest Moon left Callaghan’s stable in December for Kentucky. A 5-year-old mare by Uncle Mo, Harvest Moon won 4 of 9 starts and earned $384,720 in a two-year career.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Tripoli, the winner of the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar in August, is in the midst of a 90-day rest after undergoing surgery to have a bone chip removed from a knee.

Trainer John Sadler said on Sunday that the injury was detected after Tripoli finished seventh of eight in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar on Nov. 6.

“He’ll be back for the summer,” Sadler said.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Margot’s Boy, the 5-year-old gelding, is stuck in a 17-race losing streak since May 2020, a time when Santa Anita had just resumed racing after a forced hiatus at the start of the pandemic.

The losing streak includes a second by a head in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby in September of that year, a head loss in an allowance race at 1 3/8 miles on turf at Del Mar last August, and a neck loss in an allowance race at a mile on dirt at Los Alamitos on Dec. 4.

Mr. Jagermeister earned a 100 Beyer Speed Figure, a career best, in a seven-length romp Sunday at Tampa when finishing a six-furlong allowance in a quick 1:08.95, a clocking just .28 seconds off the track record. The easy triumph under David Cardoso took the 7-year-old horse past the $700,000 earnings mark.

Mr. Jagermeister, one of the most accomplished Minnesota-breds of recent times, is co-owned by his trainer, Valorie Lund, in partnership with his breeder, Kristin Boice. From 37 starts, the son of Atta Boy Roy now has 13 wins, including seven in statebred stakes.

Veteran trainer Michael Wright hasn’t taken a false step yet this meet, going 4 for 4 since shipping his stable from Woodbine to Tampa.

Wright has not had a starter yet in 2022, nor does he have an entry for Wednesday or Friday. His winners all came in December – Nantucket Red, Decimator, Distinctly Blue, and Call Her Joey. The native of England has trained since the late 1960s, shortly after his family moved to Canada, when he was 14.

Big fields are expected when entries are drawn Wednesday for the three stakes to be run Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs.

There have been no stakes run at Tampa since Dec. 11. The Saturday stakes, all to be run on the main track, are the $50,000 Pasco and $50,000 Gasparilla, both for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs, and the $50,000 Wayward Lass at 1 1/16 miles.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Ce Ce, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar in November and a leading contender for the Eclipse Award as the nation’s outstanding female sprinter of 2021, is nearing her first start of the year.

Trainer Michael McCarthy said Sunday that Ce Ce is under consideration for two Grade 2 races worth $200,000 at seven furlongs for fillies and mares – the Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 29, or the Santa Monica Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 5.
