The Grade 3 Lone Star Derby has been moved from spring to the fall this year, one of several changes Lone Star Park has made to its stakes schedule to accommodate the 2004 running of the Breeders' Cup World Thorough-bred Championships.

Lone Star, located near Dallas, will run two Thoroughbred meets this year instead of just one in the spring. The Grade 3, $300,000 Texas Mile on April 24 and Lone Star Million Day on May 31 will headline the 63-date spring season, which runs from April 15 to July 11.

Magna Entertainment Corp. has withdrawn Laurel Park's signal from Youbet.com, expanding Magna's policy to restrict access to its signals at competing account wagering companies.

Officials at Youbet said that Magna informed the company about the Laurel Park decision last week, and that the withdrawal became effective Jan. 17. Magna officials told Youbet that the decision was "beyond appeal," according to Michael Veitch, Youbet's chief marketing officer.

Ticket applications for the 2004 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Lone Star Park were made available on Wednesday. Seats range in price from $25 to $125. The Breeders' Cup will be held on Oct. 30.

Seating for 50,000 is being made available. Tickets cost $25 for a festival reserved seat, $50 for a clubhouse turn bleacher seat, $75 for a clubhouse turn stadium seat or an upper-stretch stadium seat, $100 for an upper-stretch field box seat, and $125 for a pavilion lawn stadium seat or pavilion lawn box seat.

Jockey Jose Flores will be out of action indefinitely because of injuries sustained in a spill Monday at Philadelphia Park.

Flores, tied for second in the track's jockey standings with 9 wins from 56 mounts, has a punctured lung and several broken ribs. He is still being evaluated for what doctors described as two other lesser injuries, a slight fracture in the spinal area and a possible break in his collarbone.

When Island Fashion scratched from Sunday's El Encino at Santa Anita to join Got Koko and Sightseek in the Santa Monica, Ross decided to keep Ema Bovary home.

ARCADIA, Calif. - The jockeys who ride Sweet Return wear the white silks with red dots of John Brunetti's Red Oak Stable. They ought to add a bank robber's mask, too. For the second straight time, Sweet Return scored a gate-to-wire upset victory in a 1 1/4-mile grass race, this time in Monday's Grade 2, $150,000 San Marcos Handicap at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Peace Rules, the winner of the Haskell Invitational and the third-place finisher in last year's Kentucky Derby, was one of 85 horses entered Monday for the eight Sunshine Millions races that will be run Saturday at Santa Anita Park and Gulfstream Park.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Second of June earned a 108 Beyer Speed Figure for his impressive victory in Saturday's Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes, a performance that has moved him into the upper echelon of the 3-year-old division. But trainer Bill Cesare is not ready to begin making hotel reservations for Kentucky Derby week in Louisville just yet.

"There are still a lot of good horses out there we haven't met yet," Cesare said. "We'll run in the next two here and then see where we stand."

ALBANY, Calif. - Jockey Jose Luis Rivera Jr. suffered chest bruises but no broken bones after a spill aboard Brave Solution in Sunday's sixth race at Golden Gate Fields.

Rivera was examined and released at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley. He is expected to resume riding Thursday. Brave Solution, a 3-year-old colt, suffered fatal injuries and had to be euthanized.
