SELMA, Texas - Fly Slama Jama set a course record at Retama Park when he upset the $100,000 Texas Hall of Fame Stakes at 40-1. The 1 1/16-mile turf race was one of seven restricted stakes on the card worth a cumulative $490,000.

The program, which was the richest of the meet, celebrated the Texas Hall inductions of Willard Proctor, Cash Asmussen, Allen Bogan, Ott Adams, Two Altazano, and Three Oh's.

Fly Slama Jama ($82.20) wired the field in the Texas Hall, and covered the distance in 1:40.79. Weldon Cloninger rode the winner for trainer John Locke.

Sharbayan, ridden by Pat Day, ran his 2003 record to 4 for 4 when he pulled away to win the Grade 3, $138,200 Sycamore Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths over late-running Cetewayo. The winner paid $7.80 after finishing 1 1/2 miles in 2:29.55.

Owned by Iron County Farms and trained by Wally Dollase, Sharbayan won a graded stakes for the first time in seven races since being imported from France. Always in striking position in a field of 10, Sharbayan took over for Better Talk Now at the top of the stretch.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Harmony Lodge capped a terrific 5-year-old season Sunday by registering a half-length, gate-to-wire victory in the Grade 2, $150,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park.

House Party, the 7-10 favorite, rallied for second, a head in front of Slews Final Answer. Jockey Jose Santos said House Party got startled by a piece of paper she saw on the track at the top of the stretch.

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Uppity Kitty ($8.40) opened a lead in the stretch and held on to win a three-way photo over Quanah County and Go Ask Daisy in the $63,400 Courtship Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Bay Meadows.

Uppity Kitty sat behind pacesetting Absolute Nectar down the backstretch, edged closer on the turn, and opened a clear lead at the eighth pole in the six-furlong race.

At the wire, Uppity Kitty was a nose in front of Quanah County, who was, in turn, a nose in front of Go Ask Daisy. The winning time was 1:11.69.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Perfect Soul and Wando both left Woodbine last week with high hopes of enhancing their prospects for the Oct. 25 Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita.

Perfect Soul passed his test with flying colors by capturing Saturday's Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland, and will proceed to the BC Mile as a serious candidate.

Wando, however, came up short, finishing third in Saturday night's 1 1/16-mile Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park, and he probably will not see action again this season.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Ruler's Court broke into the game like a potential star, then spent the next couple of starts trying to live it down. But he finally came through with breakout performance on Sunday at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting , turning the Grade 2, $250,000 into a personal showcase.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Designed for Luck, a gelding who overcame a career-threatening injury to return to racing this summer, may be peaking at an ideal time.

Sunday, Designed for Luck won the $300,000 at Santa Anita, scoring his most lucrative win and booking a place in the $1.5 million Breeders' Cup Mile on Oct. 25.

"It's satisfying to see the horse, who had no right to come back to racing, do this," trainer Vladimir Cerin said. "This was for real."

ARCADIA, Calif. - Avanzado ended a four-race losing streak with a front-running win in Sunday's $156,625 at Santa Anita, but he is not considered a candidate for the $1 million Breeders' Cup Sprint on Oct. 25

Avanzado, an Argentine-bred, must be supplemented for $200,000, a sum that owner Michael Cooper said was too high. "We won't be going there," he said.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but that won't prevent the Keeneland record books from noting the significance of the victory Sunday by Take Charge Lady in the $500,000 .

That's usually a no-no in a turf marathon, but when the field passed the wire for the second and final time, Bien Nicole, ridden by Don Pettinger, was the easiest of winners, prevailing by 7 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 race Sunday at Keeneland.
