Yell roars to easy win in the Davona Dale

Yell ($12.40) rallies to an easy six length victory in Sunday's $150,000 Davona Dale Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - With his reigning 2-year-old filly champion still several weeks away from making her 2003 debut, trainer Shug McGaughey went to the bench for Sunday's $150,000 at Gulfstream Park and came up with an ample replacement in Yell who rallied to an easy six length victory over Ivanavinalot in the Grade 2 fixture for 3-year-old fillies. The previously undefeated My Boston Gal finished fifth and last as the 3-2 favorite.

Mountain General best in Taylor's Special

Mountain General ($3.80) beats Speed Hunter by a half-length in the $100,000 Taylor's Special Handicap at Fair Grounds.

NEW ORLEANS - Mountain General ran more than 10 lengths slower than in the Thanksgiving Handicap, but he didn't need a track-record setting performance to win the $100,000 on Sunday at Fair Grounds. Bulling between horses in the stretch, Mountain General used his strong stretch kick to beat Speed Hunter by a half-length.

Doctor Mike closed well on the inside and just missed second, a neck behind Speed Hunter. Mountain General, a heavy favorite owned by Keith Asmussen and trained by Steve Asmussen, paid $3.80 to win.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Spring Meadow won her first graded stakes in Saturday's $135,500 Las Flores Handicap at Santa Anita, holding on a late rally by Brisquette to win by a neck.

Spring Meadow ($7.20) stalked the pace of Shameful and September Secret through fractions of 21.25 and 43.81 seconds, rallied three-wide to reach contention on the final turn and took the lead in the final furlong.

Holiday scores rare double

Harlan's Holiday overcame an outside post and high weight of 120 pounds in winning Gulfstream's Grade 1 Donn Handicap Saturday.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Needless to say, Grade 1 races at Gulfstream Park bring out the best in Harlan's Holiday.

Eleven months after his easy victory in the 2002 Florida Derby, Harlan's Holiday came back with an equally impressive performance to win Saturday's $500,000 by three widening lengths over Hero's Tribute.

Harlan's Holiday became the first horse to win the Grade 1 Florida Derby and Grade 1 Donn handicaps in back to back seasons. Cryptoclearance is the only other horse to capture both races. He won the 1987 Florida Derby and 1989 Donn.

Agosti again having fun in the sun

El Dorado Shooter holds on

ALBANY, Calif. - El Dorado Shooter ($5.60) engaged in a blistering early duel with Giovannetti and held him off by a head to win the $100,000 Ken Maddy Sprint at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

The two dueled through opening fractions of 21.08 and 43.16 seconds as they opened eight lengths on third-place runner Debonair Joe. The two continued down the stretch together as Radar Contact and Debonair Joe cut into their margin, but they held on.

Tampa Bay: White Buck scores 27-1 upset

OLDSMAR, Fla. - The picture for the $250,000 Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby didn't get any clearer as Olga Paradise's White Buck rallied down the stretch through a driving rain and posted a stunning neck upset at 27-1 in the $50,000 Sam. F. Davis Stakes, the traditional prep for Tampa Bay Downs' top 3-year-old stakes.

Ridden by Roger Velez, White Buck angled out on the second turn to go after pacesetter Coach Jimi Lee, battled with that one through the lane, then after being headed by another longshot, 29-1 Freedom Lane, came back again for a hard-earned decision.

Oaklawn Park: Colorful Tour wins fourth in a row

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Colorful Tour won his fourth consecutive race Saturday when he drove to a 1 1/2-length win over Ask the Lord in the Grade 3, $100,000 Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park.

It was another nose back in third to Premeditation.

Crafty Shaw, the 3-5 favorite, launched a stretch bid and finished fourth over the muddy track.
