Robby Albarado and Calvin Borel are in the same boat as Sellers, with mounts in both Fair Grounds weekend stakes and in the Connally.

Badge of Silver gets test

NEW ORLEANS - Ronny Werner, former Quarter Horse trainer and Texan for life, worked outside his barn, grilling fajitas for his crew late Thursday morning. He took a break to present a smallish bay colt stabled directly across the shed row from his office.

"The secret is to see who the trainer keeps in the closest stall," Werner said. "That's usually the good one."

Campbell has that replay look

Less than two lengths separated the first five horses across the wire in last month's Native Dancer Stakes at Laurel Park.

Get ready for a possible rerun. All five are back to run 1 1/8 miles again in Saturday's $100,000 John B. Campbell Handicap.

The popular Maryland veteran P Day, still going strong at age 8, was all out to win the Native Dancer by a head. It was his 11th victory in 27 career starts at Laurel.

No Its Not has new foe

No Its Not, who is undefeated at Delta Downs, will have to hold off the closing kick of new rival Seainsky to win Saturday night's $50,000 Delta Mile at the Vinton, La., track.

Battle of colts on the brink

Horsephotos
Offlee Wild, a contender in the Fountain of Youth, works a fast five furlongs in 57.40 seconds on Wednesday morning. A win in the Holy Bull sparked interest in the colt.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - With Vindication out of the picture and both Sky Mesa and Toccet still weeks away from their 2003 debuts, the 3-year-old division can certainly use an infusion of fresh blood to stir up a little excitement on the road to this year's Kentucky Derby.

Saturday's $200,000 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park is the proper setting for one or more potential Derby horses to step forward. A field of nine promising 3-year-olds will square off at 1 1/16 miles in the Grade 1 race, which serves as the prep for the $1 million Florida Derby on March 15.

Two horses, two styles, two races

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Two out of three isn't bad, unless you really, really, wanted all three. But two out of three is the hand trainer Todd Pletcher now holds for this weekend's major 3-year-old prep races.
